Pongalo Pongal!!!

After many many years today I celebrated pongal in a manner befitting the traditional family I am from. Up by 5:00 AM, I had my oil bath, wore my new Saree and set off to make chakkara pongal and associated stuff.

K did admirably himself. Up earlier than usual and attired in veshti chattai he helped me cut veggies for the ezhu kari kootu (seven vegetable stew). In two hours I had a steaming vengala paanai full of sweet pongal, another vessel with venn pongal and savory kootu.

After the required neiveidyam K and I sat on the steps enjoying the cook fest and realized with a start we were going to be late for work. Highlight of today is my laughable attempt at kolam making. What am I taking away from today?

To celebrate the good times. To look forward to new beginnings and most of all carry on the good traditions into posterity.

    The pongal and kootu look awesome. So you have learnt everything except to draw a proper kolam. The chariot will look different when we used to draw. However it is right that suryas chariot has one wheel.

    @Balu: Pongalai!! and yes its my recipe blog. I don’t have the patience to write out the recipes in an easy to follow manner. Its more like a place to record my memories of how I did it.
